See The Needs Of Others

“He does not delight in the strength of the horse; He does not take pleasure in the legs of a man.”
Psalm 147:10 (NASB)
A few months ago, I met a young man who had been paralyzed in a motorcycle accident. Even though Calvin had lost the use of his legs, he seemed content and at peace with his wheelchair.
“Right from the beginning,” he told me, “it was clear God wanted me to testify about Him. I remember my surgeon telling me, right before they wheeled me into surgery, that he felt bad he wouldn’t be able to give me use of my legs. But I smiled and told him it was okay. Then I shared one of my favorite Bible verses: ‘God does not take pleasure in the legs of a man.’”
Calvin’s story moves me. At his own point of disappointment and desperate need, he thought first about comforting his surgeon. What an amazing example. At this very moment, you may be disappointed and have great needs, but I urge you to find a way to fix your eyes on the needs of others.
Lord Jesus, this is so like You when You walked this earth. No matter how focused and goal-driven You were, You always noticed others, seeing their needs out of the corner of Your eye. Even on the cross, You thought of Your mother and the man on the cross beside You. Please open my eyes this day to the needs of others around me.
