Putting on the Full Armor of God at Warrior Getaway

“Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings. And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm, and steadfast. To him be the power for ever and ever. Amen.”

1 Peter 5:8-11

“Being married to a combat Veteran and pastor can be very lonely and isolating. The spiritual battle of ministry combined with the mental battle caused by war is often overwhelming,” confesses Danielle.

Her husband Nick is a Marine Veteran living with the trauma of combat in Iraq. The unique challenges of Post-Traumatic Stress infiltrated Nick and Danielle’s marriage and even Nick’s call to be a pastor. Their whole family felt isolated and discouraged on a daily basis.

They were desperate for a safe place to connect and heal.

And they found exactly that at our Fresno Warrior Getaway, where they felt the peace and love of God as soon as they arrived.

“We are so thankful to Jesus and his faithful ones for the opportunity to have been a part of the first Joni and Friends Warrior Getaway in California,” says Danielle.

Nick connected with the other Veterans, Danielle was able to share her struggles with the other Warrior wives, and their children, Cara and Carson, had a blast in their programs and activities.

Danielle continues, “It was a delight to be surrounded by people who are walking through this same battle for their souls. While the Veterans Administration has helped provide mental and physical healing for my husband, they are not equipped to heal souls – only Jesus can do that, He orchestrates this healing of souls through the wonderful staff, volunteers, financial supporters, and fellow Warriors and their families.”

“Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.”

Ephesians 6:10-12

“This week has been the BEST blessing for our family! Our kids were well cared for and loved and so were we! Our biggest takeaway is this: We are not alone in our suffering and our healing! Jesus is right beside us and has connected us to families who understand the life of a combat Veteran. We are growing and healing together.”

Praise God for the impact of Warrior Getaway on this beautiful family! You can help other Warrior families experience healing in Christ through your prayers and support, too.
