Revealing Your Heart
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada, and my husband Ken does a great job of memorizing Scripture. I remember when he was working on memorizing Matthew chapter 6 where it says: “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven….” Well, Ken was driving to work in his newly waxed car when – ding! – a piece of gravel hit the hood and made a dent.
Ken could not believe it! I mean, this car is his treasured earthly possession! Well, then he remembered those words from Matthew chapter 6. He knew right then God was testing him. And Ken had to stop and think. He realized God was showing him that his heart was way too attached to his car. You know, God’s Word has a way of doing that, doesn’t it? Really revealing what’s in our hearts. So don’t be surprised if God starts drilling you when it comes to memorizing his Word.
