Confidence in God’s Love Grows at Family Retreat
Bryden has Leigh syndrome, cerebral palsy, and swallowing difficulties. He has challenges communicating and requires a wheelchair for mobility. Bryden is fed through a G-tube and has complicated medical needs. His constant caregiving demands take their toll on Traci and Barry. When they learned that we would provide a nurse to help care for Bryden at Family Retreat, Traci and Barry couldn’t wait to sign up! And once they arrived, they were able to relax for the first time in a long time, knowing that their son would be safe.
“It’s hard to find words to describe what Family Retreat means to our family. Our sweet son doesn’t really have friends. But when we are at Family Retreat, he has a camp full of them! Bryden’s confidence in God’s love for him grows each year at Family Retreat. He doesn’t get down about his disability like he used to. Bryden comes alive at Family Retreat, and we get a chance to relax and engage with other couples who are walking a similar path.”

Traci continues, “When you have a child with special medical needs and no nursing assistance, it means one of us needs to always be there with him. Getting some time to be a couple is a big deal! Joni and Friends has a network of wonderful nurses that have made it possible for us to leave and go on a date or connect with friends we’ve not seen in a while. Joni and Friends is a Godsend and a life-changer! We hope more families will be blessed as we have been.”
We’re thanking God for life transformations like Barry, Traci, and Bryden’s. And we praise him for spreading Gospel hope all around the world through our many Christ-centered programs. But our hearts ache over the tens of thousands of disabled children and families still desperate for help and hope in Jesus.
