We find ourselves reflecting on the incredible ways God has worked through Joni and Friends® Georgia, and we’re filled with gratitude for your faithful partnership. Together, we’ve shared Christ’s love and hope to families living with disability across our state and beyond. Your support has helped to create places of belonging where disabled people feel seen, valued, and deeply loved by God.
One of the most beautiful stories of transformation can be found in Sana, who has autism. Her mother, Aruna, shares this Family Retreat testimony:
“Our experience was truly unforgettable. From the moment we arrived at Family Retreat, the atmosphere was so friendly and welcoming. It instantly felt like home. We were blessed to have an awesome buddy who not only assisted our kids with various activities, but also shared our laughter and tears, making us feel like we were at a family reunion.
One of the most beautiful things about Joni and Friends is that there is no judgment. Before Family Retreat, I often struggled to understand why my child was born with special needs. Coming from a Hindu background, it was not easy, and I sometimes felt judged or confused. But through Joni and Friends I learned about God’s love and that every child has a purpose. This helped me feel more confident, peaceful, and positive through my parenting journey. We all belong to the special needs community, whether as parents or as individuals, and that bond connected us most genuinely. It felt so natural to open up, support each other, and share our journey without hesitation.
The Moms’ self-care room was one of the best parts of Family Retreat. It gave us a chance to recharge and reminded us how important it is to take care of ourselves, too. Another highlight is the talent show, where our amazing children not only perform but literally shine on stage. Watching their confidence and joy is truly the heart of Family Retreat and never fails to uplift our spirits.
Family Retreat is something I never want to miss! I cannot wait for next year to reconnect with the families, staff, and volunteer buddies who give 100% of their hearts in service to our children.
Most of all, Family Retreat deepened my faith in God and reminded me that miracles do exist. Whether it was during the prayer sessions, the heartwarming conversations with other families, or witnessing the resilience of our children, I felt God’s presence in every moment.
I was also fortunate to have a counseling session with the retreat pastors. After our conversation, I reflected deeply on faith and the message of Christ. Their thoughtful words gave me clarity and helped me understand what it truly means to believe.
In that moment, I realized that placing my faith in Christ was the path I wanted to follow with trust and peace. It is a blessing I am proud to speak about, and an experience that will stay with me forever!”
