Your Suffering is Not Worthless

“All praise to the God and Father of our Master, Jesus the Messiah! Father of all mercy! God of all healing counsel! He comes alongside us when we go through hard times, and before you know it, he brings us alongside someone else who is going through hard times so that we can be there for that person just as God was there for us. We have plenty of hard times that come from following the Messiah, but no more so than the good times of his healing comfort—we get a full measure of that, too.”

2 Corinthians 1:3-5 (MSG)

Today’s Scripture reads, “He comes alongside us when we go through hard times, and before you know it, he brings us alongside someone else who is going through hard times so that we can be there for that person just as God was there for us.”

As heartbreaking as our suffering, grief, or troubles may be, they are not worthless. When you receive help and comfort from the Lord, He always makes sure to leave you with a little extra in your reservoir. Out of that place, then, He gives you the privilege of offering the sweet, healing comfort of God to someone else in his or her moment of deep trouble.

As others watch the way you handle your hard times, they may gain the courage and faith to seek God for help in their circumstances. Thank the Lord that someday all our suffering will cease. Until then, God gives this purpose to our lives. And even to our pain.

Thank You, Lord, for the privilege of holding and distributing one of the most precious commodities in the universe—the healing comfort of God. I love how You meet my needs, and then tuck in a little extra to share with hurting, disoriented people who cross my path.
