The Lord Told Me

“For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.”

Hebrews 4:12

I’ve heard many Christians say, “The Lord told me to do this (or that).” People often say to me, “God told me you’ll be healed,” or … the one I still don’t know what to make of was the insistent man who knocked on our farmhouse door back in Maryland and said, “The Lord told me I was to marry Joni.” (And he wasn’t Ken Tada). To claim divine sanction over your strong opinion by saying, “The Lord told me” is a godless form of persuasion. After all, how does one discuss the matter with such a person? They’ve made their opinion equal to divine revelation. And that’s where it gets dangerous and un-biblical. So, stick to the absolute authority on divine revelation. Before you say anything is “from the Lord,” just know that the Bible alone is the word of God; and it alone says what’s true.
