God Has Something to Say About Tragedies

“The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms. He will drive out your enemies before you, saying, ‘Destroy them!’…  Blessed are you, Israel! Who is like you, a people saved by the Lord? He is your shield and helper and your glorious sword. Your enemies will cower before you, and you will tread on their heights.” 

Deuteronomy 33:27, 29 

“The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms…He is your shield and helper.” What a highly encouraging word about God’s help and intervention in the lives of His sons and daughters! God definitely has something to say about the tragedies and awful situations that happen in our world and how they affect His own.  

God is constantly protecting us from the full force of the fall and the evil and suffering that goes with it. He relentlessly shields us. Time and again, He drives the devil away and rescues us from his wicked schemes. This sin-stained planet would have been ripped apart at the seams long ago were it not for the restraining hand of God. The apostle Paul tells us how the Holy Spirit holds back the evil one, his lawless agenda, and the suffering he instigates (2 Thessalonians 2:6-7). Moment by moment, God is engaged with suffering—restraining it and only allowing those harmful things to reach you that ultimately fit into His plans. 

Lord Jesus, bless You for protecting and preserving me today. Thank You for Your strong arms underneath me. Thank You for driving away the enemy from my door time after time and shielding me from his sharp arrows. I pray today, as you taught us to pray, “Deliver us from the evil one” (Matthew 6:13).
