Mark of Ownership
“From now on, let no one cause me trouble, for I bear on my body the marks of Jesus.”
Galatians 6:17
When I broke my neck, the surgeon cut open the front of my throat in order to fuse my crushed vertebrae. For years, I tried hard to cover up that 4-inch gash in my neck — Vitamin E cream, heavy makeup, turtleneck sweaters (yes, in summer!). But with time, the scar faded — and my attitude about it changed. Because listen: in Galatians, Paul says, “I bear on my body the scars that show I belong to Jesus.” It was an “aha” moment. The gash on my neck now had meaning. It’s God’s mark of ownership on me, a scar that shows I belong to Jesus and for his purpose in my life. So, what’s God’s mark of ownership on you? A birthmark, eyepatch, a surgical scar, a cane, crutch, an insulin pump? Whatever, boast in the Lord about it. Tell others it shows that God has marked you for his purpose.
