God’s Kindness
“Consider therefore the kindness and sternness of God: sternness to those who fell, but kindness to you, provided that you continue in his kindness.”
Romans 11:22
My friend Tim once went duck hunting; halfway down the lake, a truck was parked (guys drinking, cutting up). Tim yelled to them to “Be quiet” (they were scaring ducks). One guy had a gun. Disgruntled, he shot in Tim’s direction and the bullet sliced into Tim’s neck. Instantly, he fell to the ground, a quadriplegic…. For 15 years, Tim lived with total paralysis and awful pain. But when he came to our Family Retreat, he embraced Jesus …. Sadly, last week he passed away from pneumonia. ‘But’ he told his helper, “were it not for my accident, ‘never’ would I have met Jesus.” … Romans 11 says, “Consider how kind ‘and’ how severe God can be.” Now true, Tim’s accident was God’s severity; but a life for eternity filled with joy and peace? ‘That’ is God’s kindness.
