“Jesus said to her, ‘I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die.'”

John 11:25-26

We’re familiar with the “Christmas Spirit,” but you don’t hear people talk about the “Easter Spirit.” It’s because Christians don’t associate happiness with the crucifixion of Christ. Yes, we call it Good Friday because of the eternal good it brought, but there’s nothing sentimental about the gruesome carnage that happened at Calvary when Jesus was ripped to shreds.

So, this Holy Week, let’s fill it with a solemn awareness of how our sins were the hammer that drove the spikes deep. If Easter Week is to have a spirit about it, how-bout the spirit of repentance? Only when we consider the heaviness, the weightiness of our transgressions can we sing and shout on Resurrection Sunday. So get into the Easter spirit – bring your sins to the cross and praise God they’re forgiven!
