A Sacrifice Of Thanksgiving
“I will offer to you the sacrifice of thanksgiving and call on the name of the LORD.”
Psalm 116:17
Suppose two friends gave you embroideries as gifts of gratitude. One embroidery you knew was stitched on a sewing machine; the other, handstitched by a woman with rheumatoid arthritis. Now although both would be thank you gifts, the handstitched embroidery would be far more precious. It would hold greater value because you knew the pain and extra effort required to create it.
You would weigh the extra hours the woman with arthritis invested, the frequent breaks that she had to take to rub her knuckles, the pain she endured with each tiny stitch. Her suffering glorified her gratitude, and it made the gift a true sacrificial offering. When you and I suffer, we have an opportunity to offer the same sort of gift to God. So as you praise him through your pain, make your offering a precious sacrifice of thanksgiving.
