The Power of a Look
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada, and so much can be communicated with just a look. Like there are times when my husband Ken gives me a certain look and oh, I just melt. But then there are times he gives me, what I call, the stink-eye. That’s when I know I’ve done something wrong. Can you imagine how the Lord Jesus looks at you? With loving eyes of compassion, for sure. But what if, in a horrible instant of self-centered sin, the Lord’s loving eyes met yours?
You know, this actually happened once when Jesus was seized and Peter denied knowing him. Luke 22 says that in that moment, “The Lord turned and looked straight at Peter.” I wonder what kind of look Jesus gave his friend? Probably hurt and disappointment, but also concern and love. And that makes us, like Peter, grieve all the more for our sin. So ask yourself today: What kind of look would the Lord Jesus give you?
