God’s Providence In Pain

A road running through a mountain range.

“We sent Timothy…to strengthen and encourage you in your faith, so that no one would be unsettled by these trials. For you know quite well that we are destined for them.”

1 Thessalonians 3:2-3

When I think about the providence of God, I love this definition by John Piper: “God’s providence carries his plans into action and guides all things toward his ultimate goal.” In short, providence is the marvelous display of God’s sovereign plan in your life. When I broke my neck and became paralyzed, I was told God was sovereign over every detail of that fateful day. But I did not grasp his providence until I saw how it was used of God to change me and make me more like Jesus.

When I understood these blessings in my broken neck, I praised God for his providence. First Thessalonians 3 says, “We are destined for [tribulations].” So don’t miss it. You are destined to have your trials; they are not accidental. But today, ask God to show you his wonderful providence behind your pain.
