The Greater Glory
“As soon as all the people saw Jesus, they were overwhelmed with wonder and ran to greet him.”
Mark 9:15
After spending forty days on Mount Sinai meeting with God, Moses experienced a kind of transfiguration. Coming down the mountain, his face shone. God’s people couldn’t bear to look at the glory on Moses’s face, so he had to wear a veil. But then we come to the Gospel of Mark, when Jesus came down from the mountain after His transfiguration.
In today’s Scripture, we read, “As soon as all the people saw Jesus, they were overwhelmed with wonder and ran to greet him.” Don’t you love that? The glory of Jesus was far greater than the reflected glory of Moses, and yet the people weren’t blinded. No, they ran happily toward the Lord. It just goes to show that the greater glory of Jesus always attracts, drawing people near.
Our culture makes a show of rejecting Jesus, but whoever turns to Him will find wonder and joy… and eternal life.
Lord, do people see You in me? I want them to. Are they drawn to Your beauty and grace by any light escaping from my face? I don’t want people to read disapproval, distaste, and judgment in my attitude, because they didn’t read it in Yours! Shine through me, Lord. I can’t shine on my own.
