Healthy Advice
Most days, I drink about 3-4 liters of water — that’s about a gallon of water a day. You’re probably wondering why I drink so much water. As a quadriplegic, it’s important I stay hydrated. People with spinal cord injuries are at greater risk of developing kidney and urinary tract infections — and infections for a quad can be fatal if not treated in time. I’m also not able to run or get my cardiovascular rate up like most people (and exercise really cleans your system). So, the best way to flush toxins out of my body is to guzzle lots of water. Besides, water also helps with my digestion (another challenge for wheelchair users). Do you keep hydrated? Drinking more water can help you, too, and you don’t have to break your neck to reap its benefits :-).
