Something Out of Nothing
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada and I have learned that when my husband comes home from a day of fishing, I should never assume he did not catch anything. I’ve learned not to act surprised when he shows me his fish, like I did not expect him to be successful. In John chapter 21, right after the resurrection of Jesus, some of the disciples were fishing, but they couldn’t catch anything. Well, early in the morning, Jesus appeared on the shore and called out, “Friends, haven’t you caught any fish?” Yikes! Jesus broke rule number one of fishing etiquette! Nevertheless, He told them to try on the other side of the boat, and suddenly their net was bursting with fish! Which goes to show, often the Lord forces us to face the cold hard facts of life – like not being able to catch anything. He does this to show he miraculously brings something out of nothing in our lives. That’s something to remember the next time your nets are empty.
