Little Brian
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada, and I’ll never forget how much little Brian taught us at Family Retreats so many years ago. It was back in the 90s and he was the first child with autism who ever attended our Family Retreats. His mom and dad told us that Brian would be a handful, but we had no idea just how much help this young man would require. We quickly had to recruit two more volunteers just to keep up with Brian, and we even designed a quiet room to provide the serenity this child needed. It was a lot of work, but now, years later, our Family Retreats are fully equipped to help kids like Brian. Extra volunteers? Sensory stimulation? Quiet rooms? We’ve got it all!
