“This service that you perform is not only supplying the needs of the Lord’s people but is also overflowing in many expressions of thanks to God. Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift!”

2 Corinthians 9:12, 15

According to the World Bank, people with disabilities “are more likely to experience adverse socio-economic outcomes than persons without disabilities.”

In 2022 Joni and Friends opened our first International Wheelchair Restoration Center, located near Joni’s House El Salvador.

This center will supply mobility devices restored to like-new condition for Joni and Friends Wheels for the World™ outreaches in El Salvador and the surrounding region.

In partnership with Joni’s House El Salvador, the International Restoration Center employs people living with disabilities and their families through a work training program. Applicants considered for the program receive training and skills, creating greater opportunities for future employment.

Meet Sergio

Sergio, the office supervisor of our Joni and Friends International Wheelchair Restoration Center, loves working with his team of mechanics and other employees. Staff members are either directly or indirectly impacted by disability.

“People don’t just come to be served. They learn how to serve other people with disabilities,” says Sergio.

Meet the Team!

Eder serves on Gerardo and Sergio’s team and says, “Thanks be to God! Joni’s House has taken me into consideration so that I can give back a little bit of what God has given me, using what mobility I have even though I have a disability.”

Javier used to sell things like perfume on the streets to make a living. Now with steady employment at the wheelchair restoration center, he can support not only himself but also his family.

“Since becoming disabled, I’ve worked a variety of street vending jobs, but because of the pandemic, I lost my job. I think it is quite rewarding to be able to work in an area that affects me directly and in a very personal way.

This has changed my whole perspective on life. I desire to contribute my skills not only here in the Restoration Center, but I put my heart into this work because these chairs will bless many people.”

The team has a special message for you, our prayer partners and donors: “We thank everybody supporting the Restoration Center because you are providing hope, wheelchairs, and jobs to many people in El Salvador.”

Like in El Salvador, Joni and Friends is helping to break the cycle that can disability and poverty can create. When you give to Wheels for the World, your generosity changes lives.
