Ebenezer’s Story: A Mother’s Prayer for Her Son
Ebenezer was born in Ghana with badly twisted ankles and his mother and father did everything they could to find a medical cure. When they were told that nothing could be done, his father said, “Why don’t we just poison this child and give birth to another child who doesn’t have defects?” But Agnes—Ebenezer’s mother—would have nothing of this plan; and soon, her husband left them alone on their own.
Joni and Friends met Ebenezer and Agnes in their time of need.
The Joni and Friends Wheels for the World program provided a life-changing gift of hope: a special wheelchair that fit Ebenezer’s unique needs and Bible in their language. In Scripture, the word “Ebenezer” means a memorial that reminds us “Thus far the Lord has helped us” (I Samuel 7:12). Truly, the Lord helped this little boy in Ghana and his wheelchair is now his own “Ebenezer,” reminding him that the Lord will continue to help him!
