What is Warrior Getaway?
Warrior Getaway is designed to serve American servicemen and women who have visible and invisible injuries as a result of war. Veterans, along with their families, are provided a safe space for respite, community, and healing.
At Warrior Getaway, you will find a wide range of accessible family activities, powerful speakers and small group sessions, community with other warrior families, and time in God’s word. Your family will enjoy respite, renewal, and spiritual refreshment while building lasting memories in a safe and accepting environment. Practical seminars and programs for Veterans, spouses, and caregivers will address family life, post-traumatic growth, and moral injury. Parents and children will spend free time together that might include swimming, recreation, arts and crafts, and games. Evening activities are designed for the whole family to participate together and may include entertainment, outdoor BBQ, carnival, or bonfire and s’mores.
Warrior Getaway offers specific programming for children that consists of fun activities as well as age-appropriate discussions and encouragement.
Warrior Getaways are typically 3-5 days long but may vary by location.
Caring volunteers will serve your family throughout the event. Each volunteer has undergone a thorough screening and background check, and has completed training. You can also count on plenty of friends to support your family during the getaway.
No, volunteers do not provide personal or medical care. If your family requires such care, it may be necessary to bring a Personal Care Attendant with you. The Personal Care Attendant will need to fill out their own application.
Although Joni and Friends does not provide a Personal Care Attendant, our team will assist in connecting you to support resources as needed.
Our team strives to meet the needs of each participant regarding any special accommodations, diets, and other requirements indicated in the application. Applicants may discuss any special requests during the approval process.
Application and Pricing
You may apply to the Warrior Getaway of your choice. You may only attend one Warrior Getaway per year so that Joni and Friends can serve as many people as possible. Joni and Friends recommends attending the getaway closest to your home so you can connect with other Veterans, warrior families, volunteers, and churches in your area.
Check out our upcoming Warrior Getaways to choose a getaway and apply online. Once your application has been received, you will get an email with next steps. We recommend applying as early as possible. Applications open on different dates based on when the getaway occurs.
Participants can add a Personal Care Attendant to their application when they apply for the event. Alternatively, the Personal Care Attendant can apply on their own later by providing the name of the individual or family they will accompany.
The additional person can join your application by entering the individual or family household information on their application.
No, attendees must choose just one Joni and Friends Warrior Getaway per year. This enables as many Veterans, servicemen and women, and family members as possible to experience Warrior Getaway.
The cost of Warrior Getaway varies by each location and includes lodging, meals, and program costs. The cost does not include transportation to and from the event. Some scholarships are available thanks to generous Joni and Friends donors.
