TJ’s Question

Presents!TJ was hanging off the couch upside down. “Why do we give Christmas gifts?” he asked. His mom was cutting wrapping paper at the table. “Oh, lots of reasons,” she said. “But why, Mom?” TJ watched as his mom put down her scissors and sat down on the couch. “Come here,” she said, and TJ turned around so he could sit next to her. “Gifts have always been part of the Christmas story. The wise men brought gifts to Jesus and Jesus once called himself a gift from God! When we give gifts at Christmas, we can be remembering these special gifts. But there is another reason, too. The Bible tells us to be generous to others. When we are generous we show others a little bit about what God is like. It also helps us to remember that the only reason we can give gifts is because God has given us everything we have.” TJ thought about this a little bit, then said, “Thanks, Mom. I’ve got to go.” “Where are you going?” TJ grinned at his mom. “I’ve got more presents to find.” TJ’s mom, laughed, “Me, too!”
