The Run

Fast. Strong. Powerful. Full of life. What other words do you think of when you imagine a horse running? When Joni first thought about painting a running horse, she thought she would use the blurry wetness of watercolors to show how fast the horse was. She practiced several times on a small piece of paper and thought she knew what she would do on her final, big piece of paper. And then she started drawing, and oops! Watercolors didn’t give her the look she wanted! Take a look at these two pictures. One picture is painted with watercolor and the other is drawn with a pastel pencil. How are these pictures similar? How are they different? If these two horses had a race, which one do you think would win? Why do you think that?
