Bride and a doveHere at Kids’ Corner, we’ve discovered that Joni has lots of favorite verses. Are you ready to learn about another one? It is John 14:2-3. It says, “There are many rooms in my Father’s house. If this were not true, would I have told you that I am going there? Would I have told you that I would prepare a place for you there? If I go and do that, I will come back. And I will take you to be with me. Then you will also be where I am” (NIrV). Can you guess why this is a favorite verse of Joni’s? It is because when Jesus talks about going and preparing a place for us, he was using the same words a groom would use to talk about his wedding. In the old Jewish tradition, a man and woman would become betrothed. Betrothal was like being married only they didn’t live together yet. The woman would work hard getting ready to be a good wife while the man returned to his father’s house to prepare a place for them to live. When he was done getting their rooms ready, he would come back for his bride! Joni likes this verse because it sounds a lot like the Christian life. While Jesus is preparing rooms for us in his Father’s house, the church is his bride, waiting for him to come back. It might seem like a long time since Jesus went to prepare things for us, but just imagine… all this time he’s been working on our place. It’s going to be an amazing home! And that’s why this is one of Joni’s favorite verses!
