Our Volunteers Demonstrate the Love of Jesus Worldwide

“By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” John 13:35
At Joni and Friends, 98% of our ministry programs around the world come to life through the Christlike love and dedication of volunteers… like Jonathan Menjivar in El Salvador.

Jonathan’s story with Joni and Friends began when he was just 18 years old. Volunteering at Family Retreat for the first time in 2009, his passion and dedication shone through. Jonathan brought joy to everyone around him as he poured himself into serving the attendees with loving care. Since then, his commitment to the ministry has continued to grow.
Gifted with musical talent, Jonathan quickly recognized that he could use his skills to glorify God and contribute to the ministry. Over the years, his role as worship leader has evolved, and he has become a key figure in leading worship at events such as Luke 14 Banquets. His energy and enthusiasm are contagious, creating an atmosphere where people feel the presence of God in a powerful way.
“Jesus said, ‘Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.’” Matthew 19:14
One of Jonathan’s greatest gifts is his ability to connect with children. His love for spending time with them shows in every interaction—whether it’s playing games, sharing stories, or simply making a child with a disability feel seen, special, and loved. And they respond with trust and affection, drawn to his warmth and energy.

Today, at 33 years old, Jonathan’s passion for the ministry is just as strong as when he first began. His faith continues to grow, and his love for the people he serves is unwavering. Along the way, God has blessed Jonathan with beautiful changes… he has gotten married and has a baby girl. And now Jonathan and his wife serve side by side, bonding as a couple as they live out their faith, loving others in the name of Jesus.
Like Jonathan and his family, you can live out the call of Jesus found in Luke 14:
“Go out quickly into the streets and alleys of the town and bring in the poor, the crippled, the blind, and the lame.… Go out to the roads and country lanes and compel them to come in, so that my house will be full.”
Luke 14:21, 23, NIV
