Shaped by God’s Word
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada, and I am so impressed by the volunteers at our Joni and Friends Family Retreats. I’m thinking especially of Bill, a college kid. He came knowing absolutely nothing about wheelchairs or walkers and was assigned to help Charlie with Down syndrome. Charlie is the kind of kid who doesn’t stop talking and constantly is spilling things. Bill was getting frustrated and was ready to call it quits.
But that evening as the volunteers came together, he listened to others share what they were learning from their experiences, as well as from the Word of God. Verses like “endure hardship like a good soldier” and “each of you should learn to look out for other’s interests before your own.” Wow, these Bible verses and more really hit home for Bill. He got a new perspective on the rest of that Family Retreat, making all the difference! Let the Word of God shape your thoughts about kids with disabilities like Charlie at joniandfriends.org.
