Steve Bundy Takes New Role Serving Vulnerable Children

AGOURA HILLS, California, April 27, 2026 – For two decades Steve Bundy has worked towards a world where every person with a disability finds hope, dignity and their place in the body of Christ. Now, after an influential career serving as Senior Vice President of International Ministries at the Joni and Friends international disability ministry, Steve is answering God’s call to serve as CEO at Children of the Nations, a ministry that provides care for poor and orphaned children in Malawi, Sierra Leone, the Dominican Republic, Uganda and Haiti, helping nearly 7,000 children daily.
Steve has a heart for vulnerable children that informs his leadership in ministry. His oldest son, Caleb, was born with muscular dystrophy, autism, and a rare chromosome deletion. Joni and Friends is grateful to Steve for the years he has dedicated to serving people living with disabilities, and we applaud his decision to follow the path that the Lord has set before him.

Joni and Friends Founder, Joni Eareckson Tada, said Steve’s new role is aligned with his biblical focus on those living on the margins.
“Whether working in ministry or at home as the father of an adult son with profound disabilities, Steve’s heart overflows with Christ’s love for those who are so often neglected or overlooked,” Joni said.

Steve is well prepared for the task of leading Children of the Nations.

In addition to his executive leadership experience, Steve has served as a missionary, pastor, and business leader. He holds degrees in Theology and Missions and Organizational Leadership, as well as Leadership in Executive Education at Harvard University and the Stanford Institute for Non-Profit Management.
Dr. Mike Jungkeit, board chair of Children of the Nations, said, “We felt the hand of the Lord clearly guiding Steve’s appointment as CEO. His calling to serve orphans and vulnerable children strongly aligns with the mission of Children of the Nations.”
Steve said he was stepping into this role with humility.
“It is with deep humility and a profound sense of calling that I step into this role at Children of the Nations,” Steve said.

“My heart has long been drawn to serve the most vulnerable, and I am honored to join a ministry committed to holistic, Christ-centered transformation. I look forward to partnering with our board, staff, and global partners to strengthen communities and expand opportunities for children to experience hope, dignity, and the love of Jesus.”
Joni and Friends International Disability Center and Children of the Nations look forward to many increased opportunities to come alongside each other as we strive to serve the world’s most vulnerable populations.

Finding Courage When There Are No Answers: A Father’s Perspective
Like most parents, Steve Bundy was not expecting his child to be born with a disability. Following Caleb’s diagnosis of partial chromosome deletion, Steve felt so alone – he didn’t know where to turn or who would understand. He shares a father’s perspective on a road that few parents would choose to travel.
