Thursday, July 22nd Update from Joni:

Okay, so you know I’m singing lots of hymns as of late. Humming them… whistling… playing harmony in my head… singing them in the chapel here at the International Disability Center at the end of the day — you name it, I’m singing it. I guess you could say I’m gearing up for more medical appointments — three of them in a row starting Monday. It could feel a little overwhelming, but listen to these words, “Day by day and with each passing moment, strength I find to meet my trials here. Trusting in my Father’s wise bestowment, I’ve no cause for worry or for fear. He whose heart is kind beyond all measure, gives to me each day what He deems best; constantly it’s part of pain and pleasure, mingling toil with peace and rest.” (The harmony is so beautiful)!

So, as far as singing my way through cancer? Charles Spurgeon would say, “Any man can sing in the day. When the cup is full, man draws inspiration from it. When wealth rolls in abundance around him, any man can praise the God who gives a plenteous harvest… The difficulty is for music to swell forth when no wind is stirring. It is easy to sing when we can read the notes by daylight; but he is skillful who sings when there is not a ray of light to read by — who sings from the heart… Lay me upon the bed of languishing, and how shall I then chant God’s high praises, unless He Himself give me the song? No, it is not in man’s power to sing when all is adverse, unless an altar-coal shall touch his lip… Then, since our Maker gives ‘songs in the night,’ let us wait upon Him for the music.”

Kathy leaves on Saturday :-( so Ken and I are taking her to a fancy-schmancy restaurant for dinner in Malibu canyon tonight! I will miss her while I’m driving to and from those medical appointments next week, but she’ll be back in August. Thank you for singing (and praying) with me!
