Thursday, July 1st Update from Joni
Thursday, July 1st Update:
With her hospital stay behind her, Joni is taking the next several weeks to rest and recuperate from surgery. Today Joni and Ken met with a home health nurse to go over the details of tending to her surgical site. Her sister Kathy has flown in from Maryland to help with home nursing needs. “It’s great having my sister here,” Joni said. “My mother survived breast cancer and Kathy was her primary care giver after Mom’s mastectomy. I’m in good hands with her here.” An appointment with her medical oncologist has been scheduled for next week during which Joni and Ken will discuss the details of her chemotherapy routine.
“As I look back on my time in the hospital, it was one wonderful divine appointment after another – even praying with my surgeon,” said Joni. “Ken was constantly giving out ‘Joni’ books and Gospel tracts and telling every nurse and aide about our faith in Christ, as well as the work of Joni and Friends. One of the highlights of the hospital stay was a visit from three of the leaders at the ministry – nothing could have invigorated my heart more than to hear such marvelous reports on the many Family Retreats underway across the country, as well as news coming in from places where our JAF teams are serving, like in Mali, West Africa! And although I can’t be ‘on the road’ serving beside them in my wheelchair, I sure can pray from home!”
Joni also expressed profound thanks for the many cards and emails and posts on Joni’s Corner, which she reads regularly. “God is moving mightily through the prayers of His people – I’ve loved reading the scriptures and quotes from hymns. And I can hardly describe the incredible sensation of His grace supporting Ken and me every step of the way. Our nightly readings of God’s Word have been so sweet. I resonate with Psalm 62:1-2, ‘My soul finds rest in God alone; my salvation comes from him. He alone is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will never be shaken.’” Joni and Ken have requested prayer for God’s hand of healing… keeping infection at bay… maintaining good range of motion in her arm… and continuing a positive outlook on the challenges ahead.
Thank you for visiting Joni’s Corner and make a point to visit this page regularly for updates and prayer requests.
