The Powerful Testimony Of Jesus Through A Wheelchair
“You may speak but a word to a child, and in that child there may be slumbering a noble heart… a heart which shall stir the church for generations to come.”
Charles Spurgeon
I get so energized whenever I nudge a child’s tender soul toward the Lord Jesus. It’s how I felt when I spoke to Levi in El Salvador.
With my iPhone, there I was, smack in the middle of a grand celebration, complete with balloons and fanfare – little Levi received our 200,000th wheelchair from our Wheels for the World program!
What a party! Never have I seen a child so enthusiastic about his spiffy pediatric wheelchair. It fit him perfectly.
I shouted, “Congratulations, Levi! Are you happy with your new wheelchair?” Our interpreter could barely keep up with his parents’ tumble of words and Levi’s giggles.
Levi’s mother pressed their new Spanish Bible against her chest. It was clear she and her husband were thrilled beyond words.
“Sabemos que este regalo vino de Jesús!”
Translation: “We know this is a gift from Jesus!”
Lillian and Ludwin Cordova
This humble family received a wheelchair beyond their means… opened their hearts to Jesus Christ… got connected with a solid, caring church… and will receive on-going help through Joni’s House.
It’s a story of irrefutable life-transformation and unending hope in Christ that will alter everyone’s perception of disability – people far and wide will witness God’s power on display through the weakness of little Levi and his parents.
All because of a sturdy little wheelchair, a Bible, and the Gospel of Jesus.
And it’s the 200,000th time it happened… what a milestone! Never did I dream that one day we’d deliver 200,000 wheelchairs and give the salvation message as many times (along with Bibles).
Thank you for being a part of our 200,000th wheelchair milestone – your prayers and gifts definitely pushed us over this amazing goal. So, let’s keep up the momentum and go for 300,000 wheelchairs and Bibles! It’s within reach for we serve a God “who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine” (Ephesians 3:20). Onward and upward as we touch for Christ more kids like Levi!
