Read Through the Bible in 2019
In these last few days of 2018, Ken and I are almost finished reading the book of Revelation as part of our plan to read through the Bible chronologically. Even though this is our 11th year of reading, we never tire of going through the biblical story of redemption. Plus, there are always new insights to gain. I’m convinced it’s because we take the time to ask the Holy Spirit to open the eyes of our hearts as we read. And going through Revelation has only reinforced the importance of that practice. Like, the message to the church in Ephesus in Revelation 2 – I was struck by the incredible influence of this vibrant church, as well as its adherence to correct doctrine, and yet… they had lost sight of their first love.
It would be easy to turn the Bible-in-a-year plan into just one more “to do” for getting the Christian life “right,” forgetting that reading the Bible is supposed to develop a greater love within us for both God and for those around us. That’s why Ken and I are starting all over in Genesis next week. And I’d love for you to join us! For a while now, I’ve invited the friends of Joni and Friends to join us, and hundreds of people have signed up. I periodically send out an email of encouragement to the folks who are reading along, so if you decide to join Ken and me, let us know!
And this year, for the first time ever, we’ve made things a little easier for those who follow along. Each day’s reading has been included in my 2019 planner. There are still some planners available in the Joni and Friends store, so grab a copy and make tracking your Bible reading a little easier this year!
