Ken Tada’s Birthday Gift

We’ve had so much fun celebrating my 70th birthday… it’s been like a year-long party! But today we’re whipping up another birthday cake at the Tada household – we’re celebrating another year for my husband Ken!

Sometimes I have trouble thinking of really good birthday gifts for Ken Tada (that’s my term of endearment for him). Sure, he would love a high-end steak dinner at Ruth’s Chris, or some fancy new fishing doo-dads, but this year it’s different.  On December 13th, Ken and I are in Washington DC where I’m singing alongside Keith and Kristyn Getty at the Kennedy Center… so, I’m secretly packing a little surprise in my suitcase!  But the big gift?!  Well, I asked about that a few months ago; I asked, “Ken Tada, what would really bless you on your birthday?”

His answer surprised me! When he saw how much fun I had donating my birthday to Joni and Friends, he decided he wanted to do the same – and so, my wonderful husband is donating his special day to Joni and Friends!

Whenever he serves on a Wheels for the World team, my husband sees firsthand how much those little child-sized wheelchairs mean to a disabled little boy or girl.

And after his recent Wheels for the World trip to Thailand, he has become freshly committed to making a difference; he sees the enormous need for pediatric wheelchairs!

And so, he’s set the goal of raising $2,200… that’s enough to underwrite ten pediatric wheelchairs. We were both blown away by how many of you chose to help me meet – and surpass! – my goal when I donated my birthday back in October. And knowing my husband’s competitive spirit? I’d love to see his goal far exceed mine! Ken Tada has been such a blessing from God in my life, and I am grateful that the Lord continues to give him health and strength to care for me, even into his 70s.

So, join me today in celebrating this humble man of God. Visit his donation page to contribute to his fundraising campaign or just to leave him a birthday wish. Thank you for blessing my husband… as well as helping so many, many children with disabilities around the world!
