A Warm Spot
My friend Judy has a new cat who loves curling up in warm spots – like her computer keyboard. I can identify. On a cold morning, we all look for warm spots. For you, it may be flicking on the space heater while you brush your teeth. Or having your quiet time by a fire in the living room. When I lived on our Maryland farm, my sister and I greeted chilly mornings by turning on the oven in our kitchen. Nowadays on cold mornings, my favorite warm spot is the seat by our bedroom bay window – if time allows, the girls who get me up and I like to sit for a moment, pray, and perhaps sing a hymn. The other morning, we sang, “When morning gilds the skies, my heart awakening cries: may Jesus Christ be praised!” Whatever the song, and whatever the weather, this is our warm spot: safeguarding a quiet moment, and giving God pleasure with our song—it’s something that soothes not only the body, but the soul. Today is Sunday, the Sabbath – whether inside or outside, don’t hurry past those inviting places where you can meet with Jesus!
