Space at the Table
I grew up in a family of six, and when dinnertime rolled around and Mother would call that dinner was served… we would all run to our place at the table. We each had our own space — it was like we were assigned a place. Daddy sat at the head of the table, Kathy was over there with Jay next to her, Linda was at the far end, and I sat next to my mother. And if anyone was missing? For some reason, we didn’t shift the plates and flatware around as to fill in the space… the space was always reserved.
I thought of that today as Ken and I got the table ready for tomorrow. Because while I no longer have Thanksgiving with my folks, and my parents are now with the Lord, it is so reassuring to know that I have a place at the Lord’s table — and you, too! Psalm 23:5 says, “You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You have anointed my head with oil; my cup overflows.” Friend, you are family. God has a place reserved just for you. So this Thanksgiving, may you feast on the joy of the Lord until your cup overflows!
