Sight Typing

Kevin using his communication boardIf you’re on the computer a lot, you’ve probably learned about touch typing, right? That is when you can type without looking to see which keys your fingers are hitting. Maybe you’ve even played typing test games to see how fast you can type. Kevin, though, has another way of typing. He types just by looking! Kevin has a special kind of communication board that can sense where his eyes are focused. This is very helpful, because Kevin’s disability prevents him from communicating with spoken words or by using his hands. He has learned how to focus his eyes on the different letters on his board so that he can “type” very quickly! And once he has let the communication board know what letters he wants to use, it speaks the words for him. Isn’t that pretty cool?
