Why Should Rocks Have All the Fun?
My sister Kathy is coming to visit me soon, and I’m hoping we drive up to the Sierras – I want to show her some beautiful big red rock formations on the edge of the Mojave Desert. My sister loves to hike and – who knows? – I might sit and watch her climb awhile. I believe God has a thing about rocks. In Luke 19, Jesus talked about rocks when He was with a crowd of people who were shouting praise to Him. This bugged the Pharisees, so they told Jesus to make the people stop. But Jesus said to them, “If these people keep silent, then the very stones will cry out.” I don’t think the Lord was using a figure of speech, because if the wind and waves obeyed Him, you’d better believe the rocks would obey Him, too. One day the rocks will have a part in praising the Lord and in the meantime, their beauty and color speak loudly about the glory of their creator. So today, let’s not allow rocks to have all the fun; let’s get a head start on them and join in the chorus of praise.
