Joni and Friends Announces Retirement of President and COO John Nugent, Board Appoints EVP/CFO Laura Gardner as Successor
AGOURA HILLS, CA – June 16, 2022
Joni and Friends today announced the retirement of its President and Chief Operating Officer John Nugent and the appointment of Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Laura Gardner as successor, effective July 4, 2022.
Following an extensive period of prayer and reflection, Nugent communicated to the International Board of Directors that his season of service as Joni and Friends leader has come to a close.
Over the past nearly 4 years, Nugent has successfully led Joni and Friends in transformative growth, including the introduction of Joni’s House international disability centers which provide complete Christ-centered care as they address physical needs and demonstrate the love of Jesus.

John Nugent and his wife Marilyn have been serving with Joni and Friends in various capacities for over three decades, including Nugent’s previous role as Chairman of the International Board of Directors. He recently told the Board,
“I’m grateful to have had the opportunity to lead Joni and Friends during the past years of growth. As I step into retirement, I look forward to future years of involvement with the ministry.”

After a thorough search process steeped in prayer, the International Board of Directors is pleased to announce that Laura Gardner has been appointed as President and Chief Operating Officer of Joni and Friends. Laura has served with the ministry for over 10 years and has held various senior management positions. She is appreciated for her exemplary work, humble spirit, and action-oriented approach.
