parking lot featuring new access symbol Earlier when I covered this topic on my blog, the idea of new access signage was still on the drawing board. But as of this month, New York will become the first state to require all new and replacement signage to indicate “accessibility for people with disabilities.” Proponents say that the new sign illustrates a more active, in-motion image of a person using a wheelchair – New York will also change the terminology on the new signs, using the word “accessible” rather than “handicapped.” Whatever your thoughts are about this new access-symbol, one thing’s for certain us: it will eventually overtake the old symbol as communities revamp or update their signage. “Oh, the times they are a-changing.”
