NRB – Celebrating 35 Years of Radio

Every year about this time Ken and I head to the National Religious Broadcasters convention, and this year is extra special – Joni and Friends is celebrating 35 years on the radio. That’s right, this May will mark over 9000 radio programs recorded over the past 3 ½ decades. And I keep thinking of the thousands of people who have listened to our radio program over the years. They are not just an audience; each listener is a precious soul and, like you and I, they long to hear genuine encouragement from the Lord.

I’ve always considered our radio programs as an avenue God uses to speak strength, courage and comfort into the hearts of His children. Just the other day, I received an email from a woman who suffers from multiple physical ailments. At just the right time – a day when deep depression was enticing her into suicide – God spoke life and hope through one of my programs. Coincidence? I don’t think so. I agree with Oswald Chambers, “The things that happen do not happen by chance, they happen entirely in the decree of God.” I thank God that 35 years ago, He decreed that His Word would go forth through the messages on Joni and Friends’ radio. And I rejoice over the countless people who have been reached through every insight shared! Maybe you are a listener who has been encouraged through our radio program. If so, my radio team and I would love to hear from you!
