Will My Dog Be in Heaven?

I’m really sad because my mom and dad say that my dog Spotty is probably going to die soon. Do you think I will get to play with Spotty in heaven? Abby

Dear Abby,

We’re so sorry to hear that your dog Spotty is not doing well. Saying goodbye to a loved pet can be hard! In the Bible we read a lot about people who trust in Christ’s work on the cross being with Jesus in heaven. We don’t read anything about animals dying and going to heaven, but there are verses about animals being in heaven. Isaiah 11:6 says, “Wolves will live with lambs. Leopards will lie down with goats. Calves and lions will eat together. And little children will lead them around” (NIrV). So we can’t say for sure that you will see your pet in heaven, but we do know that God takes delight in His creation and cares about them and uses them to show what an awesome God He is. Even when a sparrow falls to the ground, God knows and cares. So when it comes time for you to say goodbye to your dog, remember that God knows and cares, too!
