Monday, August 30th Update from Joni:
My sister Jay flew out from Maryland a few days ago to help me through this second round of chemotherapy — and, oh, what a joy it’s been to have her here with Ken and me (just as special as enjoying Kathy here a few weeks ago). Last night we were commenting how the Lord Jesus has used this cancer to draw ‘the Eareckson girls’ so much closer together (my oldest sister, Linda, has been faithful with emails, phone calls and cards). They haven’t spent so much time ‘helping me’ since I was in the hospital back in the 60’s!
Last night we were also marveling at how WELL I am doing — keeping up on protein, staying hydrated, exercising regularly, remaining healthy, resting well. Honestly, your prayers only keep lifting me higher; and I know you’re praying because I read the blog regularly (what invigorating scriptures, stories, and hymns you’ve posted)! James 5:11 says, “Indeed we count them blessed who endure. You have heard of the perseverance of Job and seen the end intended by the Lord–that the Lord is very compassionate and merciful.” Friend, those who endure have the blessings of God’s mercy and compassion — what more could we want!
Still, cancer treatment is no picnic. It’s why I’ve been singing the following old hymn (and I invite you to join me)…
Guide me, O Thou great Jehovah,
Pilgrim through this barren land.
I am weak, but Thou art mighty;
Hold me with Thy powerful hand.
Bread of Heaven, Bread of Heaven,
Feed me till I want no more;
Feed me till I want no more.
