Me, Paint a Mural?
Last week we visited a local art studio (we treated our Joni and Friends volunteers to an afternoon of painting) – it was a big warehouse filled with colorful canvases and big, splashy murals. When I saw this one (a takeoff on van Gogh), I sighed deeply; oh, I would give anything to be able to pick up a bunch of big brushes and create a wall-sized mural! My wistfulness only lasted a moment, though. You see, one of the items on my ‘bucket list for my glorified body’ is to wrap my glorified hands around the handle of a big bucket of paint, grab a brush, and paint up a storm – not with my mouth, as I’ve done down here on earth, but with the gift of ‘heavenly hands.’ And I’ll do it all as an act of praise to my Savior! So I wait patiently although “While we are in this tent, we groan and are burdened, because we [wish]… to be clothed with our heavenly dwelling, so that what is mortal may be swallowed up by life. Now it is God who has made for us this very purpose” (II Corinthians 5:4-5). Oh, what a glorious Day that will be!
