Happy About Being Sad
Do you ever wonder what Joni’s favorite verse is? She’s got lots of favorites! Today we’re going to talk about one of those favorites: 2 Corinthians 7:10. It says, ” Godly sadness causes us to turn away from our sins and be saved. And we are certainly not sorry about that!” (NIrV). This is a good verse to think about today, on Good Friday. Why are we not sorry about having Godly sadness? It can be uncomfortable and scary to think about our sins (not just the sins of bad guys) being so bad that Jesus had to die to save us. But if we let ourselves be truly sad about our sin, that godly sadness reminds us to obey God. And remembering to obey God is something that is worth everything! So before you get too excited about all of the celebration and fun of Easter, stop and be sad about your sin. Tell God you are sorry for disobeying Him and thank Him for sending Jesus to die on the cross for you. Ask Him to help you obey. And then you can be really happy about being sad!
