Enjoying a Good Book

Marco loves to read! Here he is reading a copy of Joni’s book right after it was given to him as a gift. Marco is an honor student in the country of the Philippines. (His entire country is made up of islands. That’s pretty cool, isn’t it?) In the picture, maybe you can see that Marco’s head looks pretty big. Some people joke that if you have a big head, it means you are smart. But Marco’s head isn’t big because he is smart. It is big because of the type of disability he has. Everybody’s brain has fluid around it to help protect it. For most people, the fluid moves in and out of your head like water in rivers and streams. But for Marco, the fluid doesn’t move in and out. Instead it builds up like water builds up in a lake. Talk about your head feeling heavy! But in this picture Marco isn’t thinking about his head, he’s enjoying Joni’s book.
