Fighting Against SB-128, The End of Life Bill

woman taking pillAs you may have heard, last week the California Senate advanced the California End of Life Option Act (SB-128) with a 23-15 vote. The bill is now headed to the California Assembly for deliberation. If approved, the bill would authorize physicians to prescribe lethal drugs to a terminally ill patient upon his or her request. And though it’s meant to apply only to terminal illnesses, I fear that individuals with significant disabilities could be pressured by their insurers to agree their condition is terminal. Many more may come to believe they are an inconvenience to their families and that it’s their “duty to die.” Still other disabled individuals may suffer from depression and find it tempting to consider assisted suicide as a way out. It’s why I implore Californians to join me in telling their State Assembly representatives that they oppose SB-128. We must act swiftly, so click here to find and contact your representative today (Click on his or her name, and once redirected to your representative’s site, click the contact button.) The terminally ill and disabled need champions like you to fight on their behalf!
