Elder Source

Elder SourceTwo years ago I met Vivian, a ninety-year-old Jewish woman who was very near the end of her life. Despite the efforts of her son, she had been resisting the Gospel for decades. But when I visited her I asked a tough question. “Vivian, do you know for sure that your sins are forgiven?” Confessing she was not sure, nor did she feel ready to meet her Maker; she finally opened her heart to Jesus. Being in her 90s, Vivian knew she didn’t have much time left; hers was a make-or-break decision. Isn’t it wonderful how ministry happens in and through people of all ages?  But often, seniors can be overlooked. Yet David said in Psalm 71, “Even when I am old and grey … I declare your power to the next generation.” By the year 2030, the population of Americans aged 65 and older is projected to double. As this age group grows, the church is given an excellent opportunity for ministry. My friend Stan Means runs a great organization called Elder Source – its mission is to inspire seniors to live with purpose by honoring God in their latter years. Surely you know many senior citizens, so check out Elder Source’s website. They have great resources including an app you can download with music, sermons, and devotionals to bless the seniors in your life!
