Children are WelcomeChildren are Welcome

At the International Disability Center, we love welcoming visitors! I especially enjoy sharing my story with boys and girls – it’s always a great opportunity to raise a little disability awareness. Usually I give them a lesson on ‘wheelchair etiquette.’ For example, is it a good idea to reach out and shake hands with someone whose hands are paralyzed? Should you pull up a chair in order to get on eye level? What questions are appropriate, and which ones are not? After our little lesson, I tell the children they can find out more on our website page called “Kids’ Corner.”   So, if you are in the area, consider this my personal invitation to you to come by and see us at the IDC. It’s really easy to schedule a tour. And don’t forget to bring your kids or grandkids (and tell your local school). Believe me, a trip to the IDC is always a blessing! I hope to see you soon…
