We’re in the Book of Job

joni and rainey holding the bible open to the book of jobWhen you’re reading the Bible chronologically, it doesn’t take long to get to the book of Job. Virtually the oldest book in the Bible, Job is squeezed between the Tower of Babel and the call on Abraham’s life – it just goes to show how ancient this book really is! We won’t rush reading through Job – it is probably the best known treatise ever written on the subject of suffering. Personally, I think it’s fascinating that God is the one who brings up the subject of Job, not Satan (Job 1:8). Satan gladly takes up the challenge and taunts God, insisting that Job only trusts Him because God pours out so many blessings on his life. As I read, I wonder, Lord, how much of ‘me’ trusts you only because of the good things, the blessings in life? Pray with Ken and me as you read the book of Job and ask God to help you trust Him in all things – because wisdom is trusting God even when the suffering makes absolutely no sense at all!
