Bonnie’s Visit

Joni and Bonnie with Jesus' birthday cakeI always like to introduce you to my friends who deal with quadriplegia – and I want you to meet my long-time friend, Bonnie, who is a polio-surviving quadriplegic. Back in the 1950s, Bonnie contracted polio as a child and eventually became ventilator dependent and a wheelchair-user. For the last 61 years, she has kept her winsome smile, despite the many challenges (not the least of which is her current battle with breast cancer). Bonnie and her attendant, Hada, recently came for a Christmas lunch here at the IDC, and they brought a “Happy Birthday Jesus!” cake for dessert :-). When I spend time with Bonnie, I always think of Hebrews 13:7, “Consider the outcome of their way of life and imitate their faith.” Yep, that’s the way I feel about this remarkable woman – should you wish to encourage her on in her battle with cancer, drop Bonnie a line on my blog!
