The Light of Jesus
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada, and on our last Wheels for the World outreach in Africa, one of our team members took several tribal people from a local village to a hospital for children with disabilities. We wanted these people to understand that, well, disabled kids were valued by God. One of the villagers who went was a pregnant woman. And when she arrived at the hospital with us, she refused to go in for fear that looking at children with disabilities would cause her own unborn infant to become disabled.
She clutched her abdomen, as if to protect her child from the “curse.” How sad and dark. Many people in outlying regions of developing countries still believe that disabilities are a curse. But Jesus said, “I am the Light of the World. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” Visit joniandfriends.org to see how we’re bringing truth and light to the world of disability.
